Is it normal to wake up at the same time every night?
Most people may wake up in the middle of the night. The reason can be that they drink some coffee or alcohol during the day, or change their sleeping schedule suddenly. But if you always wake up at the same time at night, you might have to dig out the buried reasons so you can tackle the problem and get quality sleep.
Some people will wake up at any time of the night and fall asleep right away. While others may wake up and stay awake after that, which is called insomnia. It can be caused by several reasons.
Anxiety or depression
If you are in the mood of depression or anxiety, you’ll automatically activate your sympathetic nervous system, which will switch your brain from sleep mode to wake mode. Both your heart rate and blood pressure will go up, and then you will find it harder to fall asleep.
Some health problems may let you wake up in the middle of the night. If you have digestive problems or are just experiencing acid reflux, your sleep will probably be disrupted. Sleep apnea might also be the culprit. If you have this disorder, you will stop breathing during sleep and have other problems like snoring, being jolted awake due to choking for air, and daytime fatigue.
Basically, your circadian rhythm controls your sleep patterns or directs you when to sleep and when to wake up. When you are sleeping, you actually cycle between REM sleep (rapid-eye movement) and non-REM sleep mode. So if you are waking up at the same time every night, one possible reason is that you just reach a light stage of light at that time.
