Do cosmetics have a shelf life?
If you were stranded on an isolated island, and you are only allowed to bring one makeup, what would you bring? For me, it’s definitely the lipstick.
Lipstick is a makeup that can change the look and temperament quick and bring obvious results. And this is also the big sin that empty your wallet. But there are lipstick hoarders that collect hundreds of lipsticks at one time. I just wonder how they use it. Try a different one everyday or just collect them. For me, purchase hundreds of lipsticks must be out of mind, if you are not some cosmetic blogger or makeup youtuber. Actually, the lipsticks you will use are the regular ones. And the rest of them will past their due. And go to the bin at last.
Do you know that lipsticks only have one year of shelf life after you open it. Even if you keep using the same one everyday, it’s still not possible to run it out within the year, whereas you won’t always wear the same color everyday. Some may retort: I’ve using my lipsticks over two year now, and not hing happened so far. Well，if you don’t take care of your makeups, you’ll be regret when you find your face allergic someday.
We’ll teach you how to store your makeups properly and methods to deal with makeups that past their due. It may sounds boring, but it’s worthy to read.
What is Shelf Life?
Actually, there are two kinds of shelf life, one is for sealed state and another for opened state. If you have opened it, even if you just sniffed for one second, that counts opened.
Once the cosmetic contacted with air, it may be contaminated, especially lipsticks and creams of that contains more oil. It’s recommended to use it up within its shelf life. Most cosmetics will label or print their shelf life on package or on the product body, usually for 12 months and 36 months. For cosmetics which shelf life is less than 30 months must be marked with “best before” date according to common regulations in the most of the countries, if your cosmetics don’t label the date out.
How to Store Your Cosmetics?
Cosmetics must be stored in dry, shade and places with proper temperature. You’d better try to avoid places like car, bathroom, and window sill, near the computer or thermal oil heater. The easiest to ignored place must be places near the computer air outlet. The repeating heating and cooling will affect the active ingredients of your cosmetics. Try to store your cosmetics in shade with temperature range from 5℃ to 25 ℃. For cosmetics contain oil or cream series, it is not recommend putting them into the refrigerator, because they will become heavy and sticky under low temperature. While nail polish, perfume, spay are suitable for refrigerator.
It’s very important to know your cosmetics not just use them. By knowing them better can help you to avoid unexpected allergic and rash. And don’t be a collector. Just use them everyday to make you feel better to make the best use of them.
