Can You Grind Coffee Beans in a Blender
Perhaps some people are prone to store various coffee beans since beans hold taste longer than ground coffee does. But the question is, what if you suddenly find out there is only coffee beans left in a hurry morning? Some of you have probably noticed that there a couple of kitchen items remarkably similar to many standard coffee grinders like blender. You may have asked, “Can you grind coffee beans in a blender?” The answer is definitely YES!
Why a grinder can be replaced by a blender?
Bare bones, a grinder or a blender is really just a motor-driven, spinning blade. Though these blades come in different shapes and sizes, it doesn’t matter much with coffee beans.
How to grind Coffee Beans in a Blender?
- Step 1 – Chop the coffee beans into smaller pieces
You can use a mortar and pestle to gently crack the beans or to put them in a heavy duty plastic bag and smash them with a rolling pin or another heavy, blunt object. Once the beans are slightly broken down, the blender will have a better chance of grinding the beans to a usable size.
- Step 2 – Figure out exactly how much ground coffee your beans will yield
Add the pre-chopped beans to the blender a handful at a time. The grind setting, for blenders that have it, is best for this. They then can add more handfuls of beans to the blender once the first batch is appropriately sized.
- Step 3 – Grind your coffee beans in a glass blender
It’s important for the blender lid to be secure before adding beans to the blender. Glass blenders are the only suitable blenders to grind a finer quality coffee — not plastic. You should be careful about your coffee grind size.
- Step 4 – Make sure that the blender top is firmly on
If you don’t have an explosion of coffee beans all over your kitchen, follow the steps. Start with the blender on the pulse setting so that your beans do not burn. If you don’t have a pulse setting, turn it off every ten seconds to let the beans cool down.
- Step 5 – Make Your Coffee
Pour your coffee grounds into the filter of your coffee maker. Follow your normal procedure for making coffee and enjoy.

The design of a butcher knife with its slightly wider blade helps to provide extra leverage and surface area to cut better and crack the coffee beans.
Use the knife as a flat base and smash the beans rather than chop them, you will be able to produce a medium to medium fine grind.
