Air dry or blow dry your hair: which is better

By May 7, 2021

When it comes to drying your hair, it splits into air dry and blow-dry. People loving air drying think it takes no time and leaves hair in a natural shape and texture. While those who prefer blow-dry believe it is the best way to make hair styling. Either is true, though, your hair may get damaged without proper application.

Air dry

Air dry is convenient, but it can bring much pressure on the protein of your hair cuticle, thus making it easier to break. Besides, air dry means you may leave your hair moisturized for at least two hours, and during that time, bacteria may grow in your scalp.

When air drying, you should avoid comb your hair as that may stretch and split your hair and lead to abrasion. If you insist, you could comb with your fingers when showering.

While for others, it is alluring to rub your hair with a towel because it can dry the hair as quickly as possible. However, in this way, your hair is also at the risk of getting broken and messy. Instead, we recommend you use a microfiber towel or T-shirt to absorb the surface water.

Blow-dry

The main problem blow-dry brings is heat. When blow-drying your hair, not only the surface water but also the water inside your hair may be taken away. The remedy for this is to keep your dryer at least six inches away from your hair and move it frequently to spread the heat evenly. You can also use a diffuser attachment to help you do this, of course. The blowing technique matters, too. That is, you should blow from roots to tails rather than vice versa, or the hairy scales may get reversed and your hair looks lusterless.

In addition, apply some heat protection or hair conditioner before blow dry so that your dryer won’t take away the excess water from your hair.

Recommendation

Either air dry and blow-dry has its advantages and disadvantages. The right way to go is to combine the two. After washing, use a hairdryer to dry out your scalp and the surface water of your hair. Then leave the rest of your hair air dry to retain its natural texture and shape. For further styling, you should apply a hair conditioner to protect hair.
